Dallastown, Penn. linebacker Ben Kline is heading to Michigan this weekend for an unofficial visit. The trip will be his third U-M visit, dating back to football season when the Wolverines played Purdue. While his previous visits were informal, he's hoping to see a different side of the Michigan program this time around.
"We (he and his dad) are leaving Friday morning, so we can go on a campus tour and checkout some academic stuff. Then on Saturday, we'll watch spring practice. My previous trips up there, I was able to experience the game atmosphere, and I loved it. I also went to the first Junior Day, which gave me a chance to interact with the coaches."
The Wolverines recently increased their interest in Kline, by offering the Keystone State star a scholarship. Not only did the offer raise Kline's recruiting profile, but he now has a new lead recruiter.
"I was excited about getting the offer. I had a great relationship with Coach Gibson, but he told me when I got my offer that coach Braithwaite would be taking over my recruitment. I've talked with coach Braithwaite a couple times since, so everything is good."
Kline has more than 10 offers, and he's been very active to this point in the recruiting process. He has plans to visit every school that has offered, in fact, Kline was on the road last week to visit a Big East school that offered him awhile ago.
"I was up at Pitt last Friday and Saturday for an unofficial visit. I went on a tour of the school, and watched practice. I spent time with Coach Junko. They treat me well up there, and I really had a good time. Pitt likes me as middle linebacker."
Visits to UConn (Easter Break), Boston College (just offered), Maryland, Rutgers, and WVU, are already planned.
The upcoming visits are highly important, as Kline does not plan on taking many official visits, if any.
"I don't plan on dragging the recruiting process out, so I plan on making a decision this summer or by the beginning of my season."
Kline mentioned a few factors that will play into his decision.
"The major, as I plan on majoring in criminal justice or education. Comfort ability with the school, relationship with the coaches, and the opportunity to be prepared for the next level, as it's something I'd like to do."
