GoBlueWolverine has learned from credible sources that Michigan has hired a new defensive back coach: Ron English. The Pomona, Calif. native has been Arizona State's defensive back coach for five years. He played safety for Cal. from 1987-90 and prior to coaching at ASU was secondary coach at San Diego State. Note: English could also recruit the West Coast for Michigan, which would allow Scott Loeffler to keep his Ohio territory.
Other new finalsts over the weekend reportedly were:
- Tim Banks, native of Detroit, Michigan, Banks , a former DB from Central Michigan University who has coached at Bowling Green and Memphis.
- Lorenzo Ward, a 1990 Alabama graduate who is currently coaching at Virginia Tech.
- And the previously reported:
-- Curt Mallory, former Wolverine DB coaching at Indiana.
-- Troy Douglas, who was on Bobby Williams staff at MSU.
The following also reportedly interviewed for the job:
-- Former Wolverine DB Corwin Brown, who is coaching at Virginia.
-- David Lockwood, who is coaching at Minnesota.
-- Raheem Morris, 'defensive quality control coach' for the Tampa Bay Bucs.
