Ray Hamilton, Scout.com's no. 15th rated tight end, had his recruiting process start strong, and it hasn't faded. He's received a lot of attention, but Hamilton has reached a point where it's time to slow things down.
"Right now I'm just kind of in the process of taking all of
the offers and putting them down on paper and narrowing them down," Hamilton
told GoBlueWolverine. "I don't have my short
list yet, but I will have it very soon.
I've just been kind've going at that. I want to get it down to as few schools as I can to make it easier on
myself, but I don't have a set number.
We'll see how it plays out."
One of those schools showing heavy early interest is the
Michigan Wolverines. Recently, the Maize
and Blue stopped in to Strongsville (OH) to check in on the 6-5, 230 pound
"They did stop in, but you know you can't talk to the
coaches. Coach Tall did get a chance to
talk to my coach, and he had a lot of good things to say. My coach was just
giving him the update on
me. I talked to Coach Tall via email
following the visit and he kind of said that he was in there, but he could only
just stop in to talk to my coach. I
really respect that, because they're going about things the right way which is
part of it."
Michigan is one of the many schools fighting to get into Hamilton's short list, and it looks as if they may have done the job. However, it's not set into stone yet.
"Yeah, I do think that will happen. I'm not making any promises, but at the same time, with the way I think that they're headed and with the academic side of things. Michigan is hard to beat when it comes to
academics, especially the business school which I'm trying to get into to. It's
definitely something I've got to weigh out -- because you only have four or five years to play football, but I want to
set myself up for the rest of my life."
Hamilton, who was able to unofficially visit the Wolverines
for one of their early junior days, may be checking in again soon, whether it
will be at this weekend's Big House Barbecue or later.
"Coach Tall did tell me about it, and I'm not sure yet (on
attending the BBQ). I may be out of town, but I'll check in with him and we'll see if I can. If I can't, if
they make my short list, then
I plan on getting back up to Ann Arbor."
Michigan is certainly
hoping they've already made the short list, and Hamilton does have some early
schools in his
mind, but there is still a long ways to go in his recruitment.
"There are certain schools that kind of stick out in my
mind, but at this point, there's only going to be one school that I go to. It's
not going to cut it if I have a few
schools in my mind. At the end of the
day it's going to come down to one school."
"I'm not in any rush, I'm just weighing all my options and being smart
about it and being interactive with it."
