Darian Cooper: "Amazing experience"

DeMatha Catholic (MD) defensive tackle Darian Cooper was one the top recruiting targets on hand for Saturdays BBQ at the Big House. The trip to Ann Arbor gave Cooper and his family an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the entire Wolverine coaching staff and experience all that the University of Michigan has to offer.

A high priority on the defensive front, Michigan couldn't have picked a better time to host Darian Cooper and his family during this weekend's BBQ at Big House. The visit certainly seems to have exceeded Cooper's expectations.

"It was a great time," Cooper told GoBlueWolverine. "It was really nice; I had a chance to sit down with Coach Rodriquez, Coach Dews, Coach Singletary, and the defensive line coach (Robinson). Everything went really, really well."

"Coach Rodriquez was just so down to earth, we got along really well. He talked about how they're going to be very selective with this recruiting class because they don't have a lot of scholarships to give out. It feels good to have an offer, and to know that they really want me. I'm honored."

"Coach Singletary was really cool and funny, we were joking around. He even cracked a couple jokes on coach Dews. Coach Dews was great too; he talked to me and mother about life in general."

In between Cooper's conversation with the coaches, he spent most of his time chomping down on the food coming off the grill.

"The food was amazing! They had this BBQ chicken with this really good ranch dressing. The ribs were really good too. I ate well, think I had more than a couple plates (laughing)."

Another aspect of the visit really left an impression on Cooper was the academic presentation.

"Michigan offers a lot academically. There are so many majors to choose from, you kind of mix and match, and kind of create your own major. That was great, something different."

Before leaving the BBQ, Cooper met Mike Barwis and his staff. The encounter is one Cooper will never forget.

"That strength and conditioning coach was amazing! He's high energy, everyone at Michigan was full of high energy, but this guy was really pumped up. He even had recruits doing some of his drills, it was great. He's a person I'll never forget."

When asked about how his trip to Ann Arbor impacted his recruitment, he noted that the Wolverines gave him and his family a lot to think about.

"The trip was great, everything was so amazing. Michigan was different than anything I have seen elsewhere. They are certainly one of my top schools. I have a long car ride home which will give me and mom sometime to talk things over; we'll see where my recruitment goes from here."

"It was an amazing experience."
