"First from the recruiting perspective."
"Ron English can recruit California now -- something like 15 of ASU's just-signed recruiting class were from California, so obviously he's a good recruiter (English recruited western Arizona and Southern Calif. for ASU)."
"This hire also allows Scott Loeffler to stay in Ohio recruiting-wise -- there had been talk that he'd have been moved out west."
"So this hire is a plus in the long run for Michigan recruiting."
"Teryl Austin was a good coach and recruiter. But from everything I'm hearing on English, he'll be good too. He played defensive back in college at Cal, and he coached the secondary for five years at ASU. English was the only coach that was retained at ASU when Bruce Snyder got fired a year ago. That means he's a very good coach and recruiter -- and that the players liked him."
"And I liked his post on the internet Monday, saying good-bye to ASU (see below). That means he's conscientious with his players, and with the fans and alumni."
"So this looks like a very good hire for Michigan."
"Teryl Austin went from Michigan into the pros (the Seahawks), so did Vance Bedford before him (to the Bears) .... this looks like another top DB coach that Michigan has gotten."
Here again is English's post Monday on a prominent ASU message board .

I want to sincerely thank all of the players, past and present, that have played at ASU. Each young man has treated me with love and respect. Next I'd like to thank all of the ASU supporters who have treated myself and my familly so well; You guys were a huge part of my decision to stay here before. Also, I'd like to thank Gene Smith for providing me with an opportunity to stay at Arizona State. Finally I want to thank Dirk and his staff. GO DEVILS!!!
