The recruiting process has been an enjoyable one for 6'6 227 pound Drew Owens, and he appreciates the opportunity.
"I like the attention that I have received so far, and getting to talk to the
different schools," he told GoBlueWolverine. "It has helped me work harder for what I am trying to
He has generated interest from many colleges -- 12 offers to be exact -- and many are
coming at him real hard. We asked Drew to give us a brief list and then comment on the schools that were
recruiting him the hardest, and here is what he had to say.
North Carolina- "I like the coaching staff; they are a team that is on the rise
and they are trying hard to win in the ACC and a national title."
Michigan- "They are coming at me real hard; Michigan is real focused on getting
back to their tradition and winning ways."
Clemson- "A young team that is coming up with some success, and they are working
hard to move up in the ACC."
South Carolina- "They are pulling in some big recruits. They want to make it to the
next level, no more settling."
Virginia Tech- "This team competes and plays in big games; they have had repeated
North Carolina State- "I have been to visit them a few times; they are also working
hard to be successful."
As stated above, the Wolverines of Michigan are coming after him. Just a few weeks
ago he didn't know how interested they were in him ... but now he is interested in them.
"I was so surprised when I received the offer. I was happy that Michigan was
paying attention to me. They run the spread offense, and I like the way Michigan
gets up and down the field in that open offense."
Michigan has made it a point to let Drew know just how much they want his
services by the attention they have thrown his way.
"Coach Tony Gibson has been down to see me twice, and he told me they were
looking for a tight end to stretch the field for them. I also talked with
offensive coordinator Calvin Magee, and he wanted to make sure I was very
interested in Michigan because they were coming after me. Both coaches are very
Drew is looking to cut down his list of suitors soon, although he is giving
schools time to look at him a little more. He is looking at the summer to narrow
his list and then move forward from there.
"I want to narrow my list so I can start visiting schools. I am looking at making
my decision a little into my high school season -- after a few official visits."
