Michigan Runs Out of Gas, 69-61

The Wolverines end their regular season with a home loss to Purdue.

Michigan just seemed to be operating one gear lower than Purdue. Maybe it was LaVell Blanchard's bad ankle, which led to Michigan playing zone the whole game, which in turn just seemed to induce a little bit of lethargy. Whatever the reason, Michigan trailed from beginning to end.

It was 33-26 Purdue at the half, then 39-30 at the 15 minute mark of the second half, 48-36 at the 9:45 mark, 53-45 at the 4:30 mark ... get the picture? The Wolverines closed briefly to 53-48 with 3:30 to go when Blanchard hit a three-pointer, but with then Purdue scored the next eight points to make it 61-48 at 1:23, and it was over.

(AP Photo/Duane Burleson) Freshman point guard Daniel Horton led Michigan with 15 points (albeit on 5-15 shooting) and freshman guard Lester Abram added 15 as well. Blanchard ended his career at Crisler Arena with eleven.

(AP Photo/Duane Burleson) Michigan finished its Big Ten season at 10-6, and is now 17-12 overall, going into the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan finishes in a 3rd place tie with Purdue, but since Purdue has a better overall record (by one win), the Wolverines will play (if I am figuring this correctly) in the 4th place bracket in Chicago Thursday.
