Junior Prospect: Ill. LB Eric Andino

Talking to kids this time of year is a bit problematic. The field of recruits is broad and wide, and it's difficult to tell the recruit-'wheat-from-chaff'. Who has Michigan really offered? And, in return, which top kids are really serious about the Wolverines? One prospect recently reported to have a U-M offer is Ill. LB Eric Andino.

Pictures Added

One prospect recently reported to have a U-M offer is Eric Andino (6-4, 225 lbs., 4.8 in the 40) from Buffalo Grove, Ill.(a Chicago suburb). We watched and talked to Eric at the US Army Combine in San Antonio this past January, so we gave him a call and asked him of the offer-report was accurate.

"Michigan? No, Michigan has not offered me. Coach Moeller has been to my school (before Signing Day), and they are mailing me things. But my offers so far are from Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Northwestern."

There is also a report that your favorite college growing up was Ohio State?

"That one is true. So if Ohio State offered me they'd be high on the list. But I'm grown up now, so just because I followed a school as a kid, that doesn't mean that's where I'm going. Michigan has always been a favorite of mine too."

Okay, here's another one. There is also a report that you're coming to Michigan for their first practice on Sat., March 15.

"No. I work on the weekends. But I want to get up there as soon as I can. I've heard U-M is nice, but I've never been there. I want to get there quick -- hopefully that next week."

"I won't be able to make the Michigan Nike Camp either. I have an invitation and would like to go, but I can't."

You looked pretty big at the combine in San Antonio; are you going to grow into a defensive end?

'No, I was about twenty pounds too heavy down there. I'm a linebacker; I've always been a linebacker, and I really like flowing to the ball and making the hit."

Regarding your teammate Darrell Reid (a 6-2, 310 lb. DL); do you know if Michigan is recruiting him?

"Darrell and I talk about recruiting every day. Michigan is not recruiting him, not at the moment anyway."

You're running track this spring?

"Yes. I throw the shotput and discus, but I mainly run the sprints, in order to improve my speed. I run the 50 yard dash (I run a 6.1 to 6.3), and the one-lap dash. In the 40 yard dash I ran a 4.8 last year."

Do you plan to attend any summer camps?

"I haven't talked about it really. I've been thinking about trying to get some of my teammates to go to the Ohio State camp."

As a junior Andino made117 tackles and 12 sacks.
