Morgan Trent Makes Tracks

We chatted with the mother of Michigan commitment Morgan Trent, who filled us in on Morgan's indoor track season under his track coach Stan Edwards -- former Wolverine great and father of current Wolverine star Braylon Edwards.

Mrs. Trent filled us in on the latest on regarding her son, and Michigan's first 2003/04 Michigan commitment, wide receiver Morgan Trent (6-0, 175 lbs., 4.4 in the 40) from Orchard Lake, Mich., St. Mary's.

"Morgan runs for the Maximum Output Track Club, coached by Stan Edwards (former Wolverine fullback great and father of current Wolverine star Braylon Edwards)."

"This is Morgan's first season running indoors."

"Last weekend at a meet at U-M he ran a 6.81 second 60-meter dash in the semifinals, and then a 6.83 in finals. The finals was his third race that night, and he was a little tired (he still won!). The announcer said that was the the sixth best time nationally so far this season."

"Morgan also ran in the 4X200 and 4X400 relays. The best moment of the meet for me was actually in the 4X200. The handoff to Morgan was bad and he had to basically stop for the baton. The leader blew by him and had at least a five yard lead. But Morgan caught him and just blew by him. It was a thrilling moment. The kids are still learning their hand offs."

"This weekend is the Nike Indoor Championships in Baltimore. Then there is one more indoor meet in Finley Ohio. Then the kids go outside. Hopefully the temperatures will be warmer ... it's still been in the twenties."

"Stan Edwards is the best, we just love him. He knows from his experience with Braylon what Morgan needs to do. He has Morgan running the 300 and the two relays as well as the short sprints. Morgan's favorite is the 100 meters. But he is learning to appreciate the longer distances. Stan started him on the 400 to increase his strength and endurance, and therefore to increase his speed in the 100."
