I hate that you are forcing negative comments but this isn't an I told you so moment. Glad he turned it around because he is a likeable guy. Doesn't change the fact that he deserved the criticism he recieved before. Also at our level a stat like this speaks more to mediocrity than greatness. The top performing coaches left for bigger jobs before having the opportunity to set the record. Still good to leave the belt owning that record so congrats to him. And yes if we drop two with talent on this team and the lack of talent in this league then you better believe the bashers will be out and rightfully so.
It just takes a spark to start a Forrest fire. (Cliche I know) But 09 kind of started something, '10 was a slow year and the last two have been a fast climb. Yes, it took KD awhile to get it going but he could be the face of the dept in the next year or two if he stays. At our level, MBB could be more beneficial then FB. I'm happy he's here and I hope he stays for awhile.
I always supported Kermit and was accused of being a relative by a few on the boards. After the Houston Baptist debacle I thought it was time he moved on. Glad he didn't. Kermit's tenure has been like this...
- Overachieved the first several years, instilled discipline, and got the players to play hard which was a nice change (something Weil could not get). During this time everyone was afraid we would lose Kermit (much like fans were afraid they would lose Andy Mac in his first couple of years)
- The middle part seemed liked he began coaching too hard and could never get a chemistry going because everytime someone made a mistake their butt got pulled. The teams played tight. Recruiting not up to par. Players seemed to tune him out and we lost some good players. Still not bad years record wise but we definitely underachieved.
- The last two years it seems KD has been been a "little" more laid back...but still intense. Less likely to pull a player for one mistake. He has also recruited to our needs and did well with juco's who immediately became team leaders. And, got some really good assistants.
Now, he needs to do the one thing he has not done...win the tournament. I do not want to leave it to the committee to have to decide between us and a big conference team with 10 losses because we have seen how that turns out.
This is a huge accomplishment! It's great to be leaving the Sun Belt and still racking up all-time records for wins in all different sports, coaching milestones within the conference, etc as we pick up our 9th Bubbas Cup in May as we EXIT stage right. Congrats to Coach Davis and all of his players and coaches over the years.
Coach Davis deserved criticism as much as he deserves praise now. Granted he took over a very mediocre at best program and I think it took him a couple years to sort of "stop the bleeding" in a sense. Then once he got the negative out he had to start building. Now were finally seeing the results and its paying off. We have an awesome looking recruiting class coming next year and a solid group of guys returning who are used to winning. Also fans in the seats will help us continue to grow.
I'm the one who started it, not Sign. Probably shouldn't have posted that.
But I was fired up about the win last night. Tough as heck to win in Little Rock.
Was mainly talking about the folks who we no longer see over here any more, after we started winning.
The ones I'm talking 'bout probably haven't been to a game the last two years.
Kermit was begging for fans last night on his show. Said we were outdrawn by stAte and WKU last Saturday.
Hopefully we will pack out the Glass House this week.
The problem is he is talking to people who are ready coming to the games. He is doing a great job with the social media game but we have to reach those that don't already have tickets and that just takes time.
