Bastien talks commitment

For Shubert Bastien, the decision to commit could've been difficult. After all, the talented defensive end had half a dozen scholarship offers when he ended his recruitment, and was in the process of talking to more schools. When it finally came down to it, though, he went with his heart.

Shubert Bastien's Profile

"My first visit was on the 21st (of January) and it was unbelievable," a jolly Bastien tells BRZ. "It was just great. I committed the day before I left."

Though he had been in touch with the staff for a while, Bastien maintains that experiencing the campus and getting face time with the staff put it over the top for him.

"Ya know, it was just the whole experience," he says when asked what led him to know that Middle Tennessee is where he wanted to be. "Everything that happened just stood out so much and I knew."

For now, Bastien is able to enjoy the final half of his senior year that saw him total 64 tackles, including 11 for loss, eight sacks, two forced fumbles and a touchdown. He's not entirely sure of when he might see the field at the next level, but the 6-5, 220 pounder is okay with that.

"I might compete to play or I might just redshirt for a year. I still don't know yet," he says. "I'm okay with either really. We'll just have to wait and see."

Extra Extra:

On his greatest strength as a player: "Reading the ball and over powering the player in front of me, pretty much."

On scoring that lone TD this season: "It felt good. Really good."
