All or Nothing

According to some, head coach Kermit Davis will have one more year at the helm of Middle Tennessee's basketball program.

The Daily News Journal's Adam Sparks reported earlier today that all signs seem to be pointing to the fact that Coach Davis will be retained for the 2011-12 basketball season. While there has been no official word from Blue Raider athletic director Chris Massaro, the move won't come as a shock to those who follow the program.

Once finalized, the announcement will certainly cause a stir among an increasingly frustrated fanbase. During his tenure in Murfreesboro, Davis has proven to be a charismatic presence in the community, despite his inability to produce significant results on the court. Still, the 2010-11 season was nothing short of a disappointment, featuring a 16-16 final record that included a loss at Houston Baptist during the final stretch of the season.

While fans are split on the idea of Davis returning for another season, most can agree that it will likely be his last shot to win an outright Sun Belt title. Massaro has consistently affirmed that the recent upgrades to the basketball program will take time to come to fruition, but that platform is becoming a tougher sell to a fan base that has been shut out of the NCAA Tournament for over a decade.

Regardless of the talking points, it seems clear that Davis will return next year. In that case, fans will certainly be hoping for the best. Davis supporters will be hoping to see the seasoned coach finally make it over the hump, while his detractors will hope to see an about face on the court.
