Blue Raiders open Sun Belt Tournament play by hosting Louisiana-Monroe.

Murfreesboro, TN- The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders earned the right to host the opening round of the Sun Belt Tournament. The Blue Raiders will face to Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe at 7:00 p.m. in the Murphy Center. The Blue Raiders are led by 1st team All-SBC performer Desmond "Boogie" Yates.

The Blue Raiders are looking to qualify for the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1989, a year when Middle Tennessee upset the Florida State Seminoles in the opening round. The odds may not seem to be in the Blue Raider's favor, especially since Western Kentucky and South Alabama are the heavy favorites, but the Blue Raiders have reasons to feel confident. First of all, they have to look no further than North Texas to get inspiration. In 2006 North Texas entered the tournament as a #5 seed. By the end of the tournament the Mean Green were standing tall as tournament champions and they claimed the Sun Belt's automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.

Secondly, the Blue Raiders are entering the tournament as one of the hottest teams in the Sun Belt. They have won 7 of their last 10, including a win over the #1 seed South Alabama. The Blue Raiders have played very tough at home, winning 7 of 9 home conference games.

The road to the NCAA tournament is not easy, but it is a matter of a talented team getting hot at the right time. The Blue Raiders have the talent and they have been playing great ball over the past month. If they can continue to play at this level, they just might stamp their dance card.
