Gaines talks recruiting

Smyrna's two-way standout Parrish Gaines is currently in contact with several D-1 schools from the state of Tennessee, and several other prominent colleges from around the country. He talked with about his recruitment so far.

"Other than Middle Tennessee, the big schools to have offered me so far are Vanderbilt, Harvard, Yale and Brown." Obviously Gaines is drawing some heavy interest from prestigious academic institutions and he cites that as a factor when deciding where he's going to go.

"Academics are real important to me," he says. Gaines goes on to note that they're more important if he plans on pursuing a career outside of football once he finishes college.

Playing time is another item that could factor into a decision. While Gaines says that it isn't crucial that he be a featured player right off the bat, any possible playing time helps the decision.

So far coaches have mostly contacted him through letters, email and contact with his high school coach.

"I haven't gotten any offers yet," Gaines says. "So far it's just emails, invites to junior days and that sort of thing."

As far as his immediate plans regarding Middle Tennessee goes, he has been invited to the Spring Game on April 10 and plans to attend.

Parrish said that there is no leader right now and that he's looking at all options that are presented to him. He also said that if he had his choice in the matter, he'd prefer to stay on the offensive side of the ball throughout his college career.
