Auburn High School standout Jamichael Payne received a surprise in his mailbox this week. The defensive lineman is used to receiving letters from new schools, but this one contained something a bit different.

"I just got an offer from Western Kentucky," says the ecstatic Payne. "I am real excited to know I have a sure chance to play at the next level."

"I had not heard from Western yet," he says. When I opened the letter and saw the offer, I was surprised."

Payne's recruitment has taken off recently. The AHS lineman has been contacted by nearly 25 schools during the past month. When asked about new schools in the mix, Jamichael reeled off several new additions.

"Western Kentucky, Wake Forrest, UCLA and Arkansas have started recruiting me," he says. "I'm just excited to have those schools looking at me."

Since Payne participates on his high school track and field team, he has not planned any visits for the rest of Spring. Jamichael confirmed that he will be looking to take some visits during the summer, though. In addition, a large number of schools have stated that they will be visiting Auburn High over the next month or so.
