Haggard chooses Blue Raiders

After an unbelievable junior season, Jackson Christian's Trevor Haggard became a top target for several programs. On Wednesday, the talented center fielder made his decision.

"Middle Tennessee just felt like home," says Trevor of his decision to commit to Coach Steve Peterson's squad. "They offered me in Spring and I waited until my Summer ball was over to choose."

The Blue Raiders weren't the only ones talking to Trevor. Memphis, Tennessee and Vanderbilt were another trio of in-state schools vying for the speedster's services. Ole Miss, Tulane and Florida International were also in steady contact with him.

"Coach McGuire sent me stuff in the Fall. I started emailing him, and then I called him and went down there on an unofficial visit," Trevor says. "He told me they wanted to offer me."

Haggard is a solid addition to a Blue Raider squad who lost many key contributors from the 2010 team. He has a real shot at playing early, which was one of the key factors in his decision to commit to Middle.

Blue Raider fans should look forward to the new addition. Not only did he bat .450 with 11 HR's and 49 RBI's as a junior, but he did it from the leadoff spot. He also added 42 stolen bases in 2010, after putting up 37 as a sophomore. That should appeal to Blue Raider fans who saw their squad put up a total of 46 swipes as a team this past season.

Haggard went on to say that he considers his speed to be his biggest attribute when playing. He also said that he plans on improving even more at the plate during his senior year.
