Turner holds a handful

After amassing 49 tackles and two interceptions in 2009, Booker T Washington's Denard Turner has loftier goals in mind for 2010. Before the season is over, he'd not only like to improve on his performance from last season, but also commit to his future school. BRZ caught up with Turner to get his thoughts up to this point.

Denard Turner Profile

"Right now I don't have any favorites," Turner says. He currently holds verbal offers from a handful of schools including Middle Tennessee, Utah State, New Mexico, FIU and Bowling Green.

"The things I'm looking for right now are education and school population," he says, when asked what will factor into his decision when it comes time to make his choice. "I want to have it done by the end of this season."

At 5-11, 160 lbs. he might appear to be undersized for a safety, but the versatile athlete has the ability to play the CB position as well. Turner maintains that he's open to playing either at the next level.

With kickoff just over a week away, Turner seems to be more focused on his upcoming season than his recruitment at this point. He has set some high expectations for himself in the year to come and hopes to eclipse last year's totals in one important category.

"I really want to get more interceptions than I had last year," he says. "I had two last year and this season I'm aiming for six."
