Players to watch: USC

On Saturday, the Trojans of Southern Cal make their first visit to TCF Bank Stadium to face the Gophers. Always a tough team, the Trojans bring a talented team that is ranked 18th in the polls. Both teams have special players to keep an eye throughout the game.

The Trojan offense is obviously full of talent and athleticism. An obvious pick for a player to watch would be starting sophomore quarterback Matt Barkley. Because a quarterback like Barkley will always have eyes on him, it is important to remember that guys he is throwing the ball to.

One such player is senior wideout Ronald Johnson. Johnson has had a great start to the season snagging 12 catches for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson is a strong, fast receiver with a great set of hands. Having a big-play guy like Johnson on the field will give the Gophers fits on Saturday. Last week against South Dakota, the Minnesota secondary allowed 352 passing yards and three touchdowns. Look for Johnson to get his share of touches against the young Gopher secondary.

On Saturday, the Gophers may find themselves in another shootout just like the South Dakota game. Because of this, Minnesota will need a breakout performance from an offensive player. One player who looks poised to make a huge impact soon is wide receiver and kick returner, Troy Stoudermire.

Stoudermire has made the most out of his limited touches, gaining 92 yards and a touchdown on just four receptions for 23 yards per catch average. Stoudermire has also returned seven kicks for 168 yards. Stoudermire is a kid with great hands but is most dangerous after the initial catch. He can make guys miss or just run right past them. Fans should expect quarterback Adam Weber to give Stoudermire more touches to give the talented receiver a chance to run wild against the Trojans.
