Coleman Talks Commitment had the opportunity to catch up with Gopher basketball commit, Joe Coleman. Coleman is a 6-foot-3 wing from Hopkins, Minnesota. Rated as the 29th ranked small forward, Coleman is a great start to the Gophers' recruiting class. During his inventive, Joe talked about playing close to home, why he picked Minnesota and plans for his academic future.

First of all, congratulations on your commitment. How does it feel to have finally found the right school?

"Feels great now that it's off my chest."

What led you to pick Minnesota?

"Everything. Winning program with great coaches and players."

What really stuck out at Minnesota compared to the other schools that you had offers from?

"Just the feel for everything felt good."

What were the aspects of the basketball team that you really liked?

"They're winning and only getting better."

How does it feel to stay close to home and be able to have your family and friends watch you play college ball?

"Feels good. I live 10 minutes away from campus so if I need to I know I'll be able to go and see my parents whenever and that's a good feeling to have."

How did Coach Smith respond when you told him of your commitment?

"Pure excitement."

How does it feel to know that you will be playing for a great coach like Tubby Smith?

"It's exciting especially since my brother played for him too. It's pretty cool."

Do you have any plans on what you want to major in at Minnesota?

"Possibly something in sociology but I'm not set on one yet."
