University of Minnesota Athletics will take part in the Game Day Waste Reduction Challenge during Saturday's football game at TCF Bank Stadium vs. Penn State.

The Game Day Waste Reduction Challenge is a competition between colleges and universities to promote waste reduction at football games and Minnesota Athletics is asking Gopher fans attending the Penn State game to do their part to help recycle on Saturday.

Linebacker Mike Rallis is still battling back from and injury that has sidelined him for a few weeks. He will play as much as his health allows him to play. But he is still limited.

A change on the defensive depth chart is Troy Stoudermire will get the start at cornerback while Michael Carter and Kyle Henderson will battle it out in practice this week to see who starts opposite Stoudermire.

Coach Jeff Horton on Stoudermire's performance thus far at cornerback after switching over to that position from wide receiver.

"Thought Troy played very, very well last week," Horton said. "Only been over there two weeks. Defended some passes, made a nice tackle. Did a nice job. Played really quick there."

Horton is hopeful that running back Donnell Kirkwood would be back practicing this week and he expects the freshman running back to be able to do some things to help the running game.

Coach Horton on what can be done to ignite the running game more and improve the offense…

"I think we need to help all of them," he said. I think we need to be more high percentage throws. Need to get at them more in a groove throwing coming out early. That's my fault. I think obviously the better you can run the ball, the better your play action. That kind of passing game opens up. I think that was our strength through the middle of season. Gotten away from us the last couple weeks. We got to get back to that."
