News and Notes 10/7

And as you look at the depth chart, guys, very few changes. As you look in the back end on defense, James Manuel will start at strong safety; Kyle Theret will start at free safety; Kyle Henderson and Michael Carpenter will be the corners.

Ryan Collado started last game at free safety while he isn't starting this game he will get lots of playing time. He'll play some at corner, Brewster said. Ryan is a utility player for us. He'll do a lot of different things.

James Manuel is a big, physical safety. We really think he'll help us in this ballgame, particularly against the style of offense that we're gonna see. We want to get James on the field. But Ryan is gonna play a significant role in the game, and he'll play extensively in the game."

--The Gophers missed a healthy MarQueis Gray last game when he was hampered with plantar fasciitis.

"He's doing much better," Brewster said. He's got decreased pain in his foot, so I anticipate him being really ready to go this week. There's no limitations on MarQueis. He's ready to practice today. So I don't anticipate any limitations at this point."

--Mike Rallis is still trying to work through pain in his abdomen. So he's a strong question mark at this point, at best, Brewster said.

If Rallis can't okay Ryan Grant and Aaron Hill will continue to play at that spot. Really thought that Ryan did some nice things last week against Northwestern. A very sharp, fundamental smart kid. Aaron Hill is the same way. We feel like we have two really confident guys to play that spot.

--Donnell Kirkwood has been slowed by leg injuries, specifically his hamstring and calf. He should be ok to play this week as long as he doesn't re-aggravate the injuries in practice this week.

--Kim Royston is close to returning from his injury but even if he doesn't play it will be a huge game against his former team. This is a huge week for Kim," Brewster said. "Whether or not Kim is on the field or whether or not he's on the sideline, he's gonna be a big part of this game."

"From an emotional standpoint, leadership standpoint, he's gonna be a part of leading the charge for us on Saturday. I certainly hope he'll be able to play in the game. I'm not prepared at this minute to say that he will or won't."
