Patterson helped the Gophers to hold onto their on Friday for a 3-2 victory. Patterson stopped an amazing 37 shots against the conference's top offense which averages 3.72 goals per game. The highlight of the game was a save where Patterson had to dive across the entire crease to save a puck in the closing minutes of the game.
After the game Coach Don Lucia commented on the save by saying, "Yeah, that was pretty big. I'm a lot smarter when he makes a save like that. I thought we had done a pretty good job most of the game five-on-five. We scored a couple power play goals tonight.
"That was a huge save there at the end…He didn't even worry about the stick. He just dove across and made the save. You have to have those kinds of saves against a good team." The save electrified the crowd and spurred the Gophers on to a much-need conference victory.
Saturday was similar for Patterson who was shelled with 43 shots and made 41 saves. Patterson faced 13 shots on six powerplays and stopped every puck on the penalty kill. On the weekend, Patterson stopped 78 out of 82 shots for a 95% save percentage. The Gophers will be off until the 31st when they face Bemidji State.
