Westerhaus Working on Speed

Peter Westerhaus is unwavering in his commitment to the Gopher. His official visit cemented his desire to become a Gopher and he can't wait to get to work for new head coach Jerry Kill.

Peter Westerhaus made his commitment to the Golden Gophers under different circumstances than when he made his official visit early last December. Westerhaus was on campus meeting with new head coach Jerry Kill and his offensive and defensive coordinators, and after the meeting he was as happy as ever with his decision to be a Gopher.

GSN: So how was your visit with the new coaches?
Peter Westerhaus: It was a great experience when I went on my official visit. I Went down there and got to meet [coach Kill] right after he was announced as a the head coach and I really enjoyed my time with him. He seems like a hard-working guy a guy who is going to help turn this program around.

GSN: Did you have a chance to speak to any other coaches?
Westerhaus: I talked with the defensive coordinator. At that time they only had the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator up there. They didn't have any other position coaches announced, so I talked with both of those guys and I have also talked with the linebacker's coach since he's been hired, coach Miller.

GSN: So are they planning on playing you at linebacker?
Westerhaus: As of right now I think that's where they are leaning, but when I was down there they kept the options open, they said that I'm athletic and I'll be able to play (multiple spots), possibly thrown in the mix at some other places, maybe like a fullback or something. So we'll see.

GSN: Tell us about your Season.
Westerhaus: We had a great season. We were 13-1 and we lost in the state championship unfortunately, but we had a great, fun season.

GSN: Are you playing any other sports, now? Or are you training for the season? Westerhaus:Yep. I'm just working out. I don't play any other sports anymore. I am getting ready to go on down. I am working a lot on speed work, so its going to be a lot of fun.
