Tubby Smith's opening statement:
"Illinois is a team that's very talented. I know they've had a tough go of it and so have we. We've lost three in a row so both teams are very hungry to get a win."
On the keys to victory to stop the Gophers' current three-game skid:
"Turnovers and rebounding because we shot the ball well. I thought we held both our opponents to less field goal percentage than we shot. We shot the ball from the free throw line well, Sunday against Ohio State. We just can't turn the ball over 19 times. I don't think we've had less turnovers in any of the three games we lost so that's going to be critical. "
On the recent play of Trevor Mbakwe:
"Well I didn't think he played well I mean I think, like I told him, you go to get back to practicing the right way and playing harder, and concentrate on doing little things. I think sometimes he's trying to get a call. He can't be flopping around. Leave that to the opposing team. They had about three or four people, this is not drama school. We want to go in and play fundamental basketball."
On defending Illinois:
"They've got a lot of weapons in [Mike] Davis, [Mike] Tisdale, [Jereme] Richmond. They've got some kids who are coming around and doing some good things for them."
