Tubby Smith on the Gophers' upcoming game against Penn State:
"As we get ready for a very good Penn State team that is already coming off a good win. They beat Northwestern pretty handily. They're very tough at home and a player like Taylor Battle who's one of the top scorers in the history of the Big Ten, not just at Penn State. He's always been a challenge and a tough player to guard. It's going to be coming upon us to really know where he is on the court."
On Ralph Sampson being the cornerstone of the defense:
"Ralph's been the key to our zone. He's been our key to our defense. He knows he's a very intelligent player. He covers up for mistakes when guys get beat. He's second, third best shot-blocker in the league so he's doing a good job there."
On how to get Rodney Williams to sustain his successful play:
"He's had good practices and hopefully that will carry over the game. You know he's had two good practices coming off a very upbeat game where he played well and scored, rebounded well, something we've been trying to get him to do all year long. And he's capable of it so we just need him to play to his potential and he'll be fine."
On the Gophers' defense:
"Every time we've gotten beat it's because we give up open shots, second shots and third shots."
On Trevor Mbakwe:
"I need Trevor to play to his potential. When that's what he does if we get 24 points out of him and so many rebounds, that's fine. I just need for him to play to his potential. That's what I need everybody to do."
