Lugo's Recruitment Heating Up

One recruit is garnering more attention for 2012 is Northlake (Ill.) West Leyden linebacker Nelson Lugo. GoldenSports.net recently chatted with Lugo about his recruitment.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound linebacker has recently seen a spike in his recruitment with a recent camp invite from Northern Illinois.

"Northwestern asked for my transcripts and along with NIU invited me to junior days and spring practices," said Lugo.

He has also been hearing from Northwestern, Penn State, Missouri, Stanford, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Tulsa, Middle Tennessee, and Florida.

When asked if he had an early favorites Lugo said, "A couple but I don't really want to say much, I want to check as many as I can out before making any comments or decisions."

What does this rising recruit look for in a school?

"All of these schools are great education wise but what I'm looking for a school who is gonna play the best competition every weekend," Lugo said. He also added that he is looking for a coaching staff that he is comfortable with.

Lugo has heard some from Minnesota and mentioned that coach Jerry Kill had started to recruit him while Kill was still at Northern Illinois.

Lugo, who is a strong player for his age has been working hard this offseason to be able to play safety at the next level. When asked what are some things he has been working on he said, "On my coverage skills and strength and speed."
