During his junior season the stout defensive lineman record 36 total tackles, four sacks and forced a fumble. Burt helped lead Warren Central to a No. 4 ranking in the state of Indiana.
Already claiming offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Cincinnati and Western Michigan, Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central defensive end John Burt added another to his collection when Minnesota extended an offer on Friday.
"They called and just said they watched my film and they liked it so they wanted to extend an offer," Burt explained. "It felt great. I loved it, but I love getting offered from everywhere else too."
With six scholarship offers already in hand—and likely more on the way—Burt already knows what he will be looking for in a college.
"Academics are first," he said. "My mom is hard on that, also a great coaching staff and a place that feels like home."
The 6-foot-1 defensive linemen explained what he brings to a football by saying, "I bring leadership, encouragement, and I believe I bring faith to the team. I'm a hard worker and I go hard. I just get down and play."
Burt said he plans to visit Minnesota this spring—possibly for spring practice—where he can watch former teammate and sophomore safety James Manuel roam the Gopher secondary.
Have the two former teammates discussed life as a Golden Gopher?
"Not lately," Burt said. "But from what I remember he loves it there."
