Coleman Takes Home Mr. Basketball Honors

On Tuesday, Hopkins star Joe Coleman received the honor of being the top senior basketball player in the state of Minnesota, earning the Mr. Basketball title for 2011.

Earlier this week, Joe Coleman capped off his impressive season by taking home Mr. Basketball honors. Coleman led the Hopkins Royals to a 32-1 overall record, en route to the Royals' third straight state title. This leadership showed in the state championship game where Coleman posted 22 points on eight for 10 shooting from the floor to go with eight rebounds in a 64-52 victory over Eden Prairie.

Coleman had consistently given the Royals this type of production all year, averaging 21.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest. He was a constant force or Hopkins this past season, giving them a bucket when they most needed it.

Coleman now joins Andre Hollins as the second player in the 2011 class to me named Mr. Basketball of their respective states. Earlier this month, Hollins was awarded the honor for the state of Tennessee. Current Gopher Elliot Eliason was also named Player of the Year in Nebraska during his junior and senior seasons.
