2012 Intro: Pierre Aka

One dangerous athlete who has been receiving offers from a number of schools as well as garnering some interest from the Gophers is DE/TE Pierre Aka of Pike High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. GoldenSports.net talked with Aka about this increasing interest from Minnesota.

Pierre Aka is a 6-foot-4, 253-pound athlete out of Indianapolis. The versatile player is comfortable playing tight end or defensive end at the next level. This versatility has brought a good amount of interest to Aka who claims offers from Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan. Early on Thursday he picked up his most recent offer from Ball State.

Aka is also receiving interest from a number of other schools as well. When asked if he would likely play defensive end at the college level Aka responded, "Most likely. [The] only schools that want me at tight end is Michigan, Cincinnati, and Northern Illinois."

A lot of interest has been coming from the Twin Cities to possibly turn Aka into a future Gopher. "I'm getting recruited pretty hard from them," said Aka of Minnesota. He went on to add that, "I talk weekly with Coach [Jeff] Phelps. He came to my school back in January. We've been talking ever since."

Aka believes that this could lead to a scholarship offer from Minnesota. "He (Coach Phelps) said he wants me to come to camp so I think that's when they are going to offer. He said they [are] only taking one guy at my position so they're going to be a bit picky," said Aka of the potential offer.

What is Aka looking for in a college? "Academics!" he said. Aka added, "I want to be a nuclear engineer." Aka's combination of size, athleticism and intelligence could make him a hot prospect this cycle.
