Many aspects of practice stood out to the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder but the Gopher head coach left the biggest impression.
"Coach Kill really stood out to me—his coaching style was fun to watch," Heifort said. "He is very into all the drills and involved with all the players. It was fun to see Coach Kill tackling dummies and demonstrating all the drills."
Heifort noticed the intensity of the coaching staff being reflected in the way the team practiced.
"I could see it in the players," he said. "They were all fired up the whole practice. I can't wait to get down and start."
Although the future tight end doesn't enroll until the summer, he is already getting familiar with his position coach.
"I followed Coach Reeves around and watched him and the tight ends all day," he said. "I really like his coaching style."
Ernie wasn't the only member of the Heifort family to enjoy practice—his mother was also in attendance.
"She enjoyed it," he said. "She stood by Brian Williams and talked football with him the whole practice."
Heifort has already planned return trips to watch his future teammates in action.
"I am going to make it down to one more for sure, April 9th, and maybe one more," he explained. "Then I will be making it down for the spring game."
