The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder was privileged to experience more than just practice—he was able to sit in on the wide receiver position meetings.
"I learned a lot about routes and the expectations they have for their receivers," McDonald said about listening to future position coach Pat Poore during the meeting.
While McDonald watched the majority of the practice he also spent time trying to help Minnesota land its fifth verbal commitment. McDonald said he was "trying really hard" to convince St. Thomas Academy offensive lineman Isaac Hayes to join him as a Golden Gopher.
Hayes has proclaimed genuine interest in Minnesota but there is another school that has the 6-foot-2, 260-pounder's attention.
"He is super interested in going to Stanford," McDonald said.
Although Hayes doesn't have an offer to join his brother Anthony at Stanford, they may be the team to beat if the Cardinal comes calling.
