Fleming Looks at Minnesota

With a seeming lack of depth and a group of graduating seniors at the wide receiver position, Coach Kill and his staff are looking to add athletes to the Gophers' offense. One such play is Maurice Fleming of Curie Metropolitan High School (Ill.). GoldenSports.net chatted with Fleming about his offer from Minnesota and his visit to the Twin Cities.

Although he played quarterback in high school, Fleming is ranked as the no. 78 wide receiver in the country by Scout.com. A great athlete, he has been getting more attention from some top schools.

He has been hearing most from Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Central Michigan, and Michigan. Fleming also claims offers from Minnesota, Indiana, Central Michigan and Western Michigan.

Fleming made the trip to the Twin Cities earlier this winter and enjoyed his time with the Gophers.

"The visit was great," he said. "I enjoyed every minute of it. Everything overall was impressive." A few things really stood out to Fleming on his visit. "Going around the whole entire stadium, also seeing the largest locker room and meeting the coaches," Fleming said.

What did Fleming think of Minnesota's coaches? Coach Kill will definitely turn Minnesota around," he said. The Illinois wide receiver plans on visiting the Gophers' spring practice sometime next week.

With attention coming from more than just Minnesota, Fleming knows what he is trying to find in a football program. "A school that throws the ball a lot," he said. "Similar to Oklahoma, because I look up to people like Ryan Broyles."

The school that lands Fleming will get a well-rounded athlete with the desire to win. What does he think he can bring to his future college team?

"I can bring my speed, hands, heart, and the mental part of having a mind set to win to a school," he said. "And to make the team better overall being a leader and making sure everybody is on the same page."

Although early in the recruiting process, Fleming has an early favorite but realizes that could be subject to change. "Right now my favorite would be Indiana for now but I know as I go on and look at other schools it might be a different answer."
