Shaquille Joyner Visits U Spring Game

Chicago Simeon (Ill.) linebacker Shaquille Joyner discusses his visit to Minnesota for the Gophers' spring game.

"It was good," he said of the Gopher's spring game. "I liked it a lot—hoping to be back for a visit in the summer."

Saturday's visit to Minnesota was Joyner's first, but the Gopher's new head coach made him feel right at home.

"Yea I met coach [Jerry] Kill," he said. "He's a very good guy. He made me feel like I was at home."

The Gophers' home, TCF Bank Stadium, also left an impression on the 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker.

"Yea the locker room is huge," he said. That's the biggest locker room I have ever seen in my lifetime. The stadium was great too. I like how it spelled Minnesota up top of the chairs."

Joyner recently earned his first offer from Eastern Michigan, a school where teammates and friends Darius Scott and Demarius Reed signed to play football in 2011. While Joyner said it felt "good" to earn his first scholarship offer, he plans to attend numerous camps this summer in hopes of landing more.

"Michigan, Purdue, Minnesota, Eastern Michigan and think I'm going down to Miami (Fla.) for their camp," he said of his summer camp tour. "And some more cant think about them right now."

Was a potential Minnesota offer discussed during the visit?

"Na, I think they want to see me play but after they see me play I know they are going to offer me," Joyner said confidently.
