Hayes Talks Spring Game, Recruiting

Mendota Heights (Minn.) St. Thomas Academy offensive guard Isaac Hayes has been a fixture at Gopher practices this spring. GoldenSports.net caught up with Hayes to discuss Minnesota's spring game and what teams are actively recruiting him.

"It was good," Hayes said of the spring game. "I liked it a lot. The defense was looking really good."

Although the 6-foot-2, 265-pounder is projected by Scout.com to play offensive guard in college, but Minnesota is recruiting Hayes to play either offensive or defensive lineman.

"They just said if I have a preference I can play there," he explained.

Does the versatile lineman have a preference?

"I'm not really sure," he said. "I think I'm more comfortable at offensive but I like defense a lot."

Hayes currently boasts 11 scholarship offers and numerous other teams are showing him interest.

He mentioned Syracuse, Michigan State, Boston College, Northwestern, Indiana, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Alabama, Wisconsin, Colorado, Oregon State and Vanderbilt as schools that are actively pursuing him.

The St. Thomas Academy lineman plans to take the recruiting process slowly this spring as he sifts through the teams showing him genuine interest.

"I'm not sure at this point," he said of his future visits. "I'm kind of just waiting for coaches to come out this spring and then see who is interested [in me]."
