Buchanan Discusses Gopher Offer

Defensive back Ray Buchanan Jr. is one of the latest in a string of recruits to receive a Gopher offer. Buchanan chatted with GoldenSports.net about his newest college possibility.

Buchanan is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound defensive back out of Peachtree Ridge High School (Ga.). Buchanan is the son and namesake of former NFL defensive standout, Ray Buchanan.

Like his father before him, the younger Buchanan has been receiving a large amount of college interest. "Recruiting is going great," he said. "I've been talking to Arkansas, Purdue, Louisville, Mississippi State, Southern Miss , and Minnesota in the past week or so."

He currently claims offers from all of these schools as well as Illinois and Cincinatti. His latest offer came on Monday from the Maroon and Gold. "I was speechless," he said. I talked to Coach Brian Anderson up there and he said they were going to recruit me hard," Buchanan added.

This spring, Buchanan has taken a visit to see Louisville but plans on making the trip to Minnesota. "I'm going to make it up there this July," he said of visiting the Gophers.

Although he has not been on Minnesota's campus yet, he already has strong feelings about the Gophers' coaching staff. "I know one of the players on the team from when we were kids [Xzavian Brandon]," he said. "He loves it up there and Coach [Jerry] Kill."

"It would be an honor to play for Coach Kill," said Buchanan.
