Smith on the Verge of More Offers

This recruiting cycle the Gophers are looking to add some offensive line depth. On such player Minnesota has been looking at is Josh Smith of Avon High School (Ind.). caught up with this sought-after lineman to discuss the latest on his recruitment.

"It's going real good," he said of his recruitment. "I have a constant flow of interest from around 30 to 40 D1 schools, three offers, and about nine or 10 that are close to offering. It's been fun to be able to see so many places too," said Smith.

Smith lists Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Temple, North Carolina, Michigan State and Minnesota as teams who are close to offering him a scholarship.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound interior lineman has visited a number of these schools, including the Gophers earlier this spring. "I really did like Minnesota when I went up there," he said. "I liked the stadium a lot.," Smith added.

Smith, like many other prospects, enjoyed the new Minnesota coaching staff. "The coaches were real and friendly people," he said. "I enjoyed when Coach [Jerry] Kill took us to his office and talked to me and my parents."

On the verge of getting a handful of offers, Smith knows what he is looking for in a school. "It's got to be a good size school," he said. "Location I think I would like to be within 10 hours from home but that could change. Education is the biggest. I want somewhere so I have a job when I graduate," he added.

Part of the reason Smith is getting so much interest is his attitude toward the game of football. "Leadership, intensity, work ethic, determination," said Smith when asked what he will bring to a college team.

He added, "I feel like I will push everyone hard. I am determined to get a championship ring and more. I will also bring a them a person who can play any position on the line and will give it his best. I will do everything I can to make the team the best."
