Turner Picks Up First BCS Offer

Indianapolis Cathedral (Ind.) safety John Turner picked up his first BCS offer from the University of Minnesota on Wednesday. GoldenSports.Net was able to catch up with him to learn more about his offer from the Maroon and Gold.

What teams have all offered you so far?
"Ball State, Bowling Green, Western Michigan, Toledo, Temple, Miami (OH) and Minnesota have all offered."

How does it feel to have that first BCS offer?
"It feels great, like a big weight lifted off my back that I have a chance to play in the Big Ten. I'm just hoping for more Big Ten schools to offer."

What other teams have been in contact with you so far?
"Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State and have all been talking to me lately."

Did you have much contact with the Gopher's staff up until this point?
"Not really, it was kind of out of the blue. They came and watched workouts on Tuesday and the next day my coach had an offer from them."

Do you know much about the new coaching staff and the school?
"I know they have a new coach and a relatively new stadium but other than that not really."

What are you looking for in a potential school?
"I'm looking for a great business school, having a good relationship with the coaches, a chance for early playing time and location."

Is location a big factor for you?
"Not that big of a factor but I'm not really trying to go to school where I can only see my family a couple times a year. It's mainly so they could have an opportunity to come see my games relatively easily."

Do you plan on visiting the University of Minnesota over the summer or will you wait until the fall?
"I will probably try and visit sometime this summer."

How would you describe yourself as a player?
"A physical player that can cover a lot of ground, I bring a physical presence to the table. I bring good ball skills to the table and I'm not a vocal player all the time I just let my play do the talking."

What will you be working on in the offseason?
"I will be working on my back pedal, opening my hips, getting out of breaks and my man to man coverage skills."
