McDonald Selected as All-American

Future Gopher wide receiver Andre McDonald was recently selected to play in the 2012 Marine Corps All-American Bowl. GoldenSports.net caught up with McDonald to discuss being picked as one of the top players in the nation.

"I am playing on the Marine Corps All-American Bowl game," McDonald told GoldenSports.net. "I found out yesterday," he said. "It's a great honor."

McDonald's standout junior campaign led to the selection. Last season the 6-foot-3 receiver hauled in 64 catches for 1,144 yards and 19 touchdowns for the Hopkins Royals. McDonald led class 5A in all three categories and helped Hopkins to a 7-4 record.

Being chosen as a Marine Corps All-American means a lot to the future Gopher. "It actually almost put me in tears," he said. "It's something I dreamed for as a boy," McDonald added.

The U.S. Marine Corps All-American Bowl will be played on January 3, 2012 in Phoenix Arizona. The game will showcase 100 of the best high school football players in the country from the class of 2012.
