During his sophomore season, Smith recorded 38 total tackles and three passes defended. As a junior he earned 5A First-Team All-District honors.
"It's going very well," Smith said about his recruitment. "I just got offer from Minnesota on May 11, it was exciting. Coach Jay Sawvel stopped by. When he offered, he told my head coach. He said he liked the way I play."
While Minnesota jumped in first with an offer, Smith mentioned that LSU, Texas Tech, Nevada and UTEP are other schools that have been showing interest in him.
The recruiting process is just getting started for the talented defensive back but he already knows what he is looking for in a school.
"I'm looking for a good education and a good football program," Smith said. "I don't really care where the schools are [located]."
The 6-foot, 185-pounder explained what he brings to a football program.
"I am a hard worker and a leader. I bring leadership and dedication to a football team. On the field I love to cover and get big hits."
Smith mentioned that he plans to visit Minnesota but no date has been set.
