The University of Minnesota men's basketball team will host Virginia Tech in the 13th Annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The game between the Gophers and Hokies is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Williams Arena.
Minnesota and Virginia Tech will be meeting for the first time in each school's history but head coach Tubby Smith has a perfect 2-0 record against the Hokies. Both of Smith's wins came when he was the head coach at the University of Georgia. His Bulldogs defeated Virginia in both the 1995-96 and 1996-1997 seasons.
The Gophers have struggled recently in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge—their last win came in 2008 when they defeated Virginia at Williams Arena by a score of 66-56. Minnesota dropped their Challenge record to 4-8 following last season's home loss to the University of Virginia.
The Big Ten is the defending Commissioner's Cup champion, defeating the ACC by a 7-to-4 margin a year ago.
