Dumas Lands Sixth Offer From Minnesota

In the past few weeks the Minnesota Gophers coaching staff have been busy evaluating and offering prospects around the country. One of the most recent offerees is Island Coast (Fla.) athlete Mike Dumas. GoldenSports.net was able to catch up with Dumas and discuss how his recruitment has been so far.

"Minnesota offered earlier last week," Dumas said. "They watched my film and offered then they came down and watched me practice to watch my footwork and agility."

How much contact did he have with the staff prior to the offer?

"They had sent me mail and talked with me through Facebook and then they came down and talked with me," he said. "Gophers defensive coordinator, Tracy Claeys, has been the coach who has talked with me most."

What are some of things that he's looking for in a potential school?

"The big thing I'm looking for are what are the classes like because I'm going to be there throughout the day," he said. "Football program I want to know if the program will be great going on for a couple years rather than good for just a year."

Dumas has played quarterback, wide receiver, corner back and safety but played exclusively on defense last season.

What position are coaches recruiting him to play?

"Some teams are coming in and talking to me about playing wide receiver, corner or safety but the majority of them are recruiting me as a safety," Dumas said.

Dumas plans on making a trip up to Minnesota sometime this summer and is currently still in the research phase of his recruitment finding more out more about the program.

When asked about where his interest in Minnesota sits right now he said the Gophers are around 6- 7 out of 10 right now.

Currently Dumas holds six scholarship offers from Connecticut, Iowa, Iowa State, Maryland, Minnesota and Purdue. As it stands right now all teams are equal until after he makes some trips over the summer.

Dumas plans on graduating this December an enrolling next January at whichever school he chooses.

Last season he recorded 24 tackles, 14 pass breakups and four interceptions including one that he returned for a touchdown.
