Florida Receiver Talks Gophers

Despite two wide receiver scholarships already used for 2012, the Gophers are still looking to add depth at the position. One player who could possibly help to fill the current void is 6-foot-1, 175-pound receiver, Devonte Robinson out of Village Academy (Fla.). GoldenSports.net talked with Robinson about his interest in Minnesota and the recent progression in his recruitment.

Robinson is a speedster out of Delray Beach, Florida who recently ran a 4.47 40-yard dash at an Under Armor combine. He describes himself as, "A great competitor, a great teammate, a beast at wide receiver and an athlete."

This speed and athleticism helped lead to his success last season where he hauled in 23 catches for 695 yards and 12 scores.

The stellar junior campaign brought interest from a number of schools. "West Virginia, Wake Forest, SMU, Bowling Green, Connecticut, and Minnesota and a couple more," said Robinson when asked what schools he has been in contact with.

Along with the interest, Robinson claims offers from SMU, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Connecticut, Illinois, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Western Kentucky and Western Michigan as well as a recent offer from the Gophers.

Minnesota offered a few weeks ago after Robert Reeves stopped by Robinson's school during the spring evaluation period. "They came down," he said. "Coach Reeves came down to my school."

Robinson has stayed in touch with Minnesota since the offer. "I've given Coach Reeves a couple calls here and there," said Robinson. "I'm just trying to figure this thing out. Trying to learn about all about these schools and other schools to make my decision of who I really want to go to and who really wants me."

With so many offers, Robinson has plenty of schools to research and does not yet have a favorite school. "No, I'm still trying to figure this thing out," he said of his recruitment. "I still have time but I'm still trying to figure out if I'm done [with the recruiting process] by the time summer's over with," he added.

When looking into schools, Robinson knows what he wants to find in a college. "For one, academics," he said. "A stable coaching staff and a place that feels like home," he also added to his list of requirements.

When does Robinson planning on committing? "I want to commit before my senior season starts so I can get that out of the way and focus on my senior year and help my team grow and trying to win a state championship."
