Since the offer, Cheeks says that the staff has stayed in contact with him over Facebook as much as is allowed by NCAA rules.
Cheeks has also received offers from UL-M, Mississippi State, North Texas, FIU, and Kansas State. Two other BCS schools Arizona and Pittsburgh have also been keeping in contact with him as well.
There are a couple factors Cheek will be looking for in a school.
"I want to be comfortable at the schools—really pick one that feels like home," he said. "I'm also looking for a school with a good engineering program. I really want to be in the NFL but if that doesn't work out I would really like to have a good degree in engineering."
Cheeks has already been to two camps at UL-M and Mississippi State. His camp schedule is far from over, he plans on camping at Minnesota, Alabama and LSU.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder explained what he brings as a player to the football field.
"I believe I'm a very explosive player who gets off the ball very fast," Cheeks said. "I've got great feet and great hand work to get off the block. I've very strong, very physical and I'm relentless my job is to get to the quarterback or get to the running back when he gets the ball."
Cheeks is in no rush to make a decision.
"I'll probably wait till the end of the season and see how many offers I get and then go from there," he said.
