Jenkins Eyes Gopher Offer

With a large number of offers already out to wide receiver prospects, it might seem that it could be a crowded position for Minnesota in 2012. Fortunately for Florida's Adrian Jenkins, he feels close to a scholarship opportunity from the Maroon and Gold. Get the latest on Jenkins' recruitment from GoldenSports.net.

Jenkins, a native of Tampa, Florida, is a big receiver, standing 6-foot-3, and weighing in at 195 pounds. Although he does not possess burning speed, he is still a fast wide receiver who uses his frame to out-muscle and out-jump smaller defenders. Last season as the third wide out on his team, Jenkins hauled in an impressive 20 catches for 400 yards.

This success as a junior has brought significant interest to this under-the-radar prospect. Jenkins lists offers from Ball State, UAB, Bowling Green, FIU, Ohio, Youngstown State, Georgia Southern and Bethune-Cookman.

"I've been talking to Bowling Green and FIU every week," said Jenkins when asked what teams he has been in contact with the most.

One BCS program that has shown interest in Jenkins is the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. "I talked to Coach Reeves during the spring and afterwards on his one call," Jenkins said. "He said they really needed a big receiver like me."

Although he does not hold an offer from Minnesota yet, Jenkins feels like one may come during his senior season. "I think they're waiting on my tape halfway through the season," he said.

How would Jenkins rate his interest in the Gophers? "Very high," he said. "I do like that they're in the Big Ten."

The interest surrounding Jenkins should grow as more schools learn what he can bring to the table as a player. "As a player, I bring the ability to stretch the field, I can go over the middle, and catch any ball thrown to me," he said.
