Drew Davis Commits to Minnesota

Needham Broughton (N.C.) linebacker Drew Davis made a trip up to the University of Minnesota early in July. That visit made a big impression on him at the time. After attending a few camps he has decided to pledge his commitment to coach Jerry Kill and the Golden Gophers.

"As soon as I got up there to campus I could really tell that they were great people," Davis said. "I love the coaching staff and the facilities are top of the line. I was worried about the distance but I think it will be worth it so I was happy to make the decision."

Davis had planned on waiting until the end of the month before making his decision but after lots of prayer and discussion with his family Davis decided to move his commitment date up. How did the staff react when he called them over lunch today?

"I spoke with Coach Zebrowski and will be calling Coach Kill later, but he was really excited and he was running around telling the rest of the coaching staff," he said. "It was great to hear."

The 6-foot-3 235-pound linebacker finished his junior campaign by recording 150 tackles and was named All-Conference for the second year in a row. Along with statistical achievements, Davis brings and attitude that surely will impress the Gophers' staff.

"I'm going to work as hard as I can, and I'm going to [be] 100% dedicated to whatever the coaches need me to do."

Now that Davis is a Gopher he is already planning to do some recruiting on his teammate, running back Chris Mangus.

"Definitely, I'm always talking to him about it," he said. "I was talking with him about practice about how he should get up there and see it for himself. I keep telling him that he will definitely love it too."
