Eric Murray Pledges to Minnesota

As first reported Thursday night, Milwaukee (Wis.) Riverside athlete Eric Murray has given his commitment to the Gophers. After two successful days at Minnesota's camps, Murray received his offer today and took no time to make his pledge.

Murray is a 6-foot, 180-pound athlete out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Playing for Riverside High School, Murray has starred as a wide receiver but his quickness and athleticism will lead him to play defensive back for the Maroon and Gold.

"It's going to be a challenge," Murray said of switching from his natural position of wide receiver to defensive back in college. "There is going to be a big learning curve for a receiver but I'm up for it. I really want to do it."

Murray proved ready for the challenge when he consistently excelled in a gauntlet of defensive back drills the Gopher coaches put him through. He landed an offer a day after the impressive camp performance and didn't wait long to pounce on the Minnesota tender.

"I like the city," said Murray when asked why he committed to the Gophers. "It's just like Milwaukee pretty much, it's a big city. The coaching staff is real cool—I love ‘em. They were a big part of my decision. [Also] getting a full ride."

Murray, who totaled 521 yards of total offense and 13 touchdowns, explained what he will bring to Minnesota as a football player when he dons the Maroon and Gold.

"I can catch the ball," he said. "I can run real well. I can just come in the locker room, be a team guy and just go all out for my teammates."

What is Murray most looking forward to as a Minnesota Golden Gopher?

"I just want to play football," he said succinctly.
