"They just talked about their defense and how I'll have a good chance of playing there," he said.
That was all Twitty needed to hear before he decided that he wanted to be a Gopher. His versatility and ability to play anywhere on the defensive line should give him the opportunity to earn the playing time he desires.
"I think I'll fit in real well because the coaches told me they're going to run a 4-3," he said when asked how he might fit into the Gophers' defense. "I think I'll be a good five-technique, playing the defensive end."
As a lifelong basketball player, Twitty is very new to the game of football and has a huge upside at the college level.
"This is only my second year playing football," he said. I've played basketball since I was little."
This potential and upside earned Twitty interest from the like of Syracuse, Rutgers and Temple but Twitty chose to dawn the Maroon and Gold for a variety of reasons.
"The city, it's not like a real a big city but it's in a city," he said when asked what set Minnesota apart.
"The Mall of America, I want to go there. And just the Big Ten. I want to play in the Big Ten. Playing against good competition in the Big Ten and getting that exposure."
