Hilliard Looking to Add In-State Offer

Klein Oak (Texas) linebacker A.J. Hilliard has seen his recruiting stock rise over the summer months. The talented linebacker could be on the verge of adding a major in-state offer. GoldenSports.net was able to catch up with Hilliard and get the latest on his recruitment.

"Recruiting has been going really good, I've been talking to a lot of coaches lately," Hilliard said. "I might make a trip up to Arizona in a week or two and I had a TCU camp yesterday. The TCU coaches really liked me a lot and I hope to get an offer here this coming week."

Hilliard says that he currently holds at least 13 offers including Houston, Minnesota, Nevada, Louisville, Boise State, Michigan State, West Virginia, Arizona, Wyoming and Kansas among others.

Even with a lengthy offer sheet, Hilliard has a few top schools.

"My favorites would be Arizona on top right now and if TCU offers then they'd move up to the top as well," said Hilliard. "Minnesota probably sits around fourth on my list right now, but TCU and Arizona seem like more of a better fit for me."

Minnesota Coach Jay Sawvel has developed a fairly good relationship with Hilliard but distance could be an issue.

"I like Jay Sawvel a lot, he's a really fun guy to talk to and we've developed a good relationship," he said. "A couple of the negatives about Minnesota are the distance and the cold."

So far this summer, Hilliard has been to just one camp at TCU and plans on possibly attending a camp at Texas A&M. The Gophers staff has also spoken to Hilliard about the possibility of taking a visit but his parents would like him to only take one out of state visit which he already has taken.

As far as a decision goes it is all dependent on whether or not he picks up a TCU offer.

"Right now if TCU offers I'll probably make a decision in the next three weeks," Hilliard said.
