Three and Counting for Rogers

As the summer months have progressed West Senior (Iowa) athlete Charles Rogers has seen the interest from Big Ten schools pick up. After an impressive showing at a Minnesota senior day camp in June, he earned a Golden Gopher offer. The talented athlete may be on the verge of adding another Big Ten offer.

"My recruitment has been going good so far and it's been picking up recently," Rogers said. "Michigan State's coach [Mark] Dantonio said that they could be offering me soon and that was on Monday so I expect to have an offer from them and Wisconsin has also been talking to me."

Rogers currently holds offers from Northern Illinois, Iowa State and most recently Minnesota. All three teams have been recruiting him as a cornerback or safety prospect.

After an impressive showing at a camp earlier this summer Rogers was able to get a good idea of how the new staff in Minnesota likes to run things.

"Being at the camp I got to meet a lot of the coaches," he said. "I like the way they coach and I get along with them real well so it's pretty good at Minnesota."

Throughout the recruitment process the 6-foot-1, 182-pounder has formed a strong bond with the Gophers' coaching staff, specifically head coach Jerry Kill and defensive back coach Jay Sawvel. Aside from the strong relationship, Rogers is impressed by the coaching staff's ability to turn the Gophers program around.

"The best thing about Minnesota right now is that they're graduating a lot of seniors this year," said Rogers. "I also really like the coaching staff I've built up a pretty good relationship with Coach Kill and Coach Sawvel.

"Coach Kill and his staff have been together for a long time and they've turned around each program that they've been with and I'm sure that they'll do that with Minnesota. It'd be great to be a part of the class that helps turn the program around."

Rogers is looking for in his future school are academics, family atmosphere and the coaching staff. He also would like to make a decision at the end of the summer but if that does not pan out he will make a decision after his season. Currently Rogers has no favorites.
