Coach Kill's Signing Day Evaluation:
"Joe Bjorkland, a young man from Rosemont, Minnesota right here, hometown. And I'll tell you what, Joe probably through the recruiting era I think I was here three days, and he was in front of me and we got to know each other. He grew on me. Plus I think he started growing even more since the last month. He's going to be a great player here. Joe is 6'5", 285. This morning I watched him in camp here at the University of Minnesota. Watched his feet and things, and I think it's a really good fit for us."

Getting to Know Joe Bjorklund

Looking back, would you change anything about the recruiting process?
"No not at all. It was a stressful but exciting experience that I am thankful that I got to go through it."

What was your favorite part about the recruiting process and what was the worst?
"My favorite part was probably the visits and getting called out of class a lot for coaches, but my least favorite part was all the phone calls. It was hard to do things when I would get seven or eight phone calls a night."

Why did you end up picking Minnesota?
"The main reason is that I love Coach Kill and his entire staff. We have a lot of the same beliefs and I feel like I will have no problem buying in to what they want from me and the entire team. Also it being close to home was a big reason."

What are your goals as a freshman?
"To show the coaches everything I've got and to contribute in any way I can."

Who are your roommates?
"Foster Bush, Ernie Heifort and Peter Westerhaus."

What have been your impressions of the coaching staff?
"Nothing but good. They all seem like they know the game of football and that they can relate to younger people."

Do you have any pre-game rituals?
"I wouldn't call it a pre-game ritual but I like to be the first guy in the locker room and I like to sit in silence until right before we go out to warm up."

What is your favorite music to listen to?
"Pretty much anything country or rock. I like a little rap too but mostly old school. Some favorites are Eric Church, Linkin Park and Lupe Fiasco."

What are your favorite movies?
"Friday Night Lights, Any Given Sunday and The Waterboy."

What are three things you can't live without?
"Football, weight room, and music."

What's your favorite non-football hobby?

What are your thoughts about staying in your home state to play?
"I feel like it will mean more to me in the future because I grew up watching Gopher football so it means something more than just the football aspect of it."
